I think that my group is quite prepared for the semi-finals and I am quite glad for that. However, I am feeling quite nervous too because I am worried that our project would not be good enough for the finals.
My group has been putting in a lot of effort since the preliminary rounds in a bid to make it through to the finals. Therefore, we met up with our mentor even during the school holidays and drew up a tight schedule of what we were going to do. We have done almost all of our project, namely coming up with the poster, the animation videos, the assembly talk and the mini model. Only the NLB booth is left to complete after the semi-finals. I think that we were very self-disciplined to stay on track and we divided the work equally. I hope that our effort will pay off.
No doubt, there were problems that we faced in the preparation for this project. Sometimes, we encountered groupmates reluctant to do a piece of work so we had to push them for it. We also did not follow the judges’ advice of visiting primary schools so it may be hard for us to get through.
I learned that serving is a very tiring thing as one has to spend his valuable time and effort to help others. Sometimes, this effort also goes unnoticed and hence wasted. I also learnt that one needs to be humble to serve.
In conclusion, I think that it is a very good experience to be doing this Service Learning project but improvements can be made. I hope that my group will be able to make it to the finals so that we can serve the public!
I feel happy and relieved that my group has managed to squeeze past the preliminary round of this competition. Even though he had to go for a second round of prelims, I feel that our project will still be able to help the public and spread awareness about earthquakes.
I think that my group is in the right course heading into the semi-finals as we are going on schedule. We are working as a team and meeting up with our mentor regularly too. I hope that we will continue to work hard for the semi-finals.
After the comments by the judges in the preliminary round, I think that our project is a little too small-scaled and we should include more ways of creating awareness in order to serve the public more. Improvements can and should be made to make our project better.
I learned many things from the preliminaries judging too. For instance, I learnt that it is important for one to be open to advice so that one knows how to improve because outsiders’ perspective may be very different from one’s. I also learned that to be a good servant leader, I must make certain sacrifices and use my best effort to serve the public. These lessons are very valuable to me and will help to build up my character in life.
All in all, I think that our project will benefit the public and I am proud to be able to make such a contribution. Even though we may not make it through to the finals, my group will strive to the best and use all most effort to continue with this project.
